Bio:
The Honorable Tameika Carter is originally from Oakland, CA. After completing her studies at Johnson C. Smith University, she relocated to Texas in 2001 to attend Thurgood Marshall School of Law at TSU. After being admitted to the Texas Bar, Judge Carter selected a career in public service and served as an Assistant District Attorney for the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, Harris County District Attorney’s Office and eventually the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office. During her time as an Assistant District Attorney she gained extensive jury trial experience including prosecuting misdemeanors and complicated felonies. While at the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office she was privileged to serve as the Chief of the Mental Health Division where she largely worked on jail diversion for the mentally ill. Judge Carter has also worked in the private sector where she fought tirelessly to protect the rights of individuals charged with crimes and to help families harmed by the intentional and negligent acts of others.
Judge Carter believes fair, experienced and impartial Judges are essential to our justice system and her 16 years working as both a prosecutor and in the private sector has well-equipped her for this job. Judge Carter has dedicated her career to public service and she is looking forward to serving the residents of Fort Bend County as the presiding Judge of the 400th District Court.
The Honorable Tameika Carter was elected as Judge of the 400th District Court on November 3, 2020.
