Sojourner Truth Art Museum (Sojo Museum) has kicked off a new program called Technology and Leadership Academy (TALA). Escape Velocity is proud to be one of the partners, who will work with Sojo Museum, music producers Joe Archie, Derek Allen, and rap artist M’ster Lewis.
TALA will introduce youth to music appreciation, studio engineering, computer skills, video production and business acumen (Youth Entrepreneurship Program). Youth will have an opportunity to create their own record label and produce their first song titled “Kings In the Hood”.
Youth will also create their own music video inspired by the “Kings in the Hood” song. Expectations include: music upload to iCloud, music sales, music video exposure, community performances and radio airplay.
- Targeted participants: boys/girls of all races ages 13-18
- Location: MLK Library – 7340 24th St Bypass, Sacramento, Ca 95822 (Sojo Museum 12/13 and 12/20)
- Date: Every Thursday (except holidays) kicking off Dec 13th.
- Time: 6pm to 7:30pm
We are ecstatic that Boys in the Hood Book Club members have the opportunity to be included in this special project, and the producers will have an introduction at our next meeting on November 30th.
The greatest way to impact a child’s life is to provide him/her with tools that promote Lifelong Self – Sufficiency.
One of the goals for this project is to change the negative impact music and music videos have on youth.
Youth will be creators of change for themselves and their community by producing positive lyrics into the airways. In terms of resiliency TALA will allow at-promised youth to be leaders, and decision makers, while learning technology, building competencies in money management, self-determination, critical thinking skills, working relationships; all of which will cultivate them to be viable, productive citizens in their community.
