Children’s Literacy Book Drive

Escape Velocity is still accepting children’s book for our book drive. Donations can be dropped off at All Things Literacy Books and More Bookstore at 2251 Florin Rd, Ste 113, Sacramento, CA 95822,  Mon-Thur, and Sat 12-4pm until December 15, 2021.

Self-Care Skate Night

Around the Way Girls Book Club and Boys in the Hood Book Club participants are having a skate night event to end their Mind, Body and Literacy Pop-Up Sessions. The youth enjoyed two virtual pop-ups and learned about mediation, healthy relationships, consent, writing prompts, and enjoyed games and more. We thank our partner WEAVE for funding these activities.

EquityMatterz: Hip Hop, Abolitionist Teaching & Black Education
Monday, December 6, 2021 from 5-7pm (PST) on Zoom. Join this intimate conversation centering the K-12 school experiences of Black Youth and Teachers, where Dr. Betinna Love will discuss how Hip Hop Civics Education, when linked to the framework of intersectionality and Abolitionist Teaching, creates a space where Black lives matter, Black joy is real, and Black students and educators thrive!

The Sacramento Youth Commission (SYC) is currently recruiting to fill open seats through December 10, 2021. There are various seats currently open to young people that are 14-22 years of age at the time of appointment who live or attend a school within Sacramento city limits.

Join the Virtual Info Session on 12/8 from 5:00pm-6:00pm: Learn about the role, expectations and commitment of Youth Commissioners. SYC staff and current appointed youth commissioners will answer questions in real time.

Do Better Movement: Winter Blanket Drive

Collecting new or gently used winter blankets for the unhoused.

The Center for Counseling and Diagnostic Services (CCDS) is accepting new clients for Spring 2022 wait-list. It is a free counseling service provided by Sac State and is a great free resource for Sac State students and Sacramento community members to use. Counseling services are for adults, couples, family units, and children. Counselors can help with, but are not limited to anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and relationships.

2022 Spring Landscape & Learning Youth Employment Program

Youth Aide application deadline: Friday, January 7, 2022 – 4:00pm

Youth Aide – $15.00 per hour, Saturday & Sunday, 8:00am – 2:30pm. Youth Aide applicants MUST be 14-17 years old on February 5, 2022 and reside within the Sacramento city limits to be eligible (not just have a Sacramento residential address).
